new project

Because I always need something to do... I’ve started a new project. It is to create the first online English to Tibetan Dictionary. Plenty of Tibetan to English dictionaries exist, but not a single one the other way around.

That’s a great idea. But, I hope it won’t be password-protected when it’s done. ;)

Yes, sorry about that! It won’t be. I uploaded the Rangjung Yeshe Dictionary to see if maybe all that was needed was a new cgi program to do English to Tibetan searches. Turns out that my hunch was right. But, I’ll still be continuing with the dictionary — in a few days.

Only recently I’v been searching the WWW for an English > Tibetan Dictionary and was astounded that I couldn’t find one. Why anything still astounds me is a source of amazement in itself....anyway thanks so much for doing this. I input the word compassion but got no return...I take it its not in yet. I’ll return often to watch this project grow and make word suggestions.

Yes, I know exactly how you feel. That’s why I decided to create the dictionary. I’ve been slacking off on it a little because I’m not real happy with the CGI script I found to search the database. It seems to give poor results. So I’ve been working on locating and testing out different scripts. I think I’ve found one I like, but it may mean redoing the format of the current database — hence the lack of word additions. I’ll step up my efforts though now that I know others are interested. Thanks for your feedback!
