i was going through some of my old “work” today. graphic design stuff that i have done over the years. i was really impressed with my older stuff. and i realized why... i used to do the old punk rock trick of collecting pictures, phrases, and whatnots from books, magazines, drawings my friends or i made. random bits of printed media. i’d save them for their irony mostly. anyway, this gives a whole wide array of possibilities because you know what’s in your collection and you think about how to put it together for a while before doing it.

the first thing i do now when i need an image of some sort is go to google. then i’m stuck making something work that i haven’t put much thought into. and it doesn’t usually look as cool as grabbing a pencil and sketching something, scanning it and tweaking it. or finding some silly phrase in a magazine, scanning it and using that instead of photoshop type.

it takes more time, but i think it’s worth it. i’ve inspired myself to get back to me and do things the way i used to.
